Choreographer - UT - 2020

Sounds European is a twelve minute dance film, featuring 14 dancers. It is subdivided into 5 sections (Brussels, Amsterdam, Berlin, Prague, and Vienna). This film arose out of my deep interest in yes choreogrpahing, but also in getting behind a camera. Throughout college I felt drawn to cameras, but technically incompetent, this was the result of my hopes to learn how to become a camera operator. This film was the first time I filmed, directed, and produced anything and it has shaped the rest of my artistic journey. The choreography is rooted in an original score by Jarom Hansen, and features sounds recorded on the BYU Contemporary Dance Study Abroad (2019). This film will always be special to me because it memorializes the life changing experience I had dancing throughout Europe with my peers and friends, and feels like a very nostalgic, and occasionally self indulgent journal. Ultimately, Sounds European is the first real substantive project I choreographed and created, and I’m incredibly proud of myself for learning the skills to collaborate, organize, and create this film.
